SSG Paris Washington

I grew up on the West Side of Chicago and joined the Army National Guard in 2014. I was inspired to enlist by a strong desire to build a better future for myself while doing something meaningful—serving my community and my country.

Throughout my career, I’ve served as a 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, working alongside some of the most dedicated Soldiers in the force. I’ve participated in numerous training events both across the country and overseas, gaining valuable experience and leadership skills. My time in service has strengthened not only my discipline but also my commitment to helping others reach their full potential.

Recruiting Career

My journey into recruiting began when I joined the marketing team, where I supported recruiters and helped coordinate community events. I officially became a Recruiter in 2021, drawn by the opportunity to make a direct impact on people’s lives—helping them access education, develop new skills, and create a better future for themselves and their families.

What I enjoy most about recruiting is watching people transform—seeing someone go from uncertain about their path to confident and motivated once they join the Guard. The most rewarding moments are when Soldiers I’ve helped enlist reach out later to share how much the Guard has changed their lives. That’s when I know I’ve made a difference.

Civilian Life & Education

Outside the uniform, I’m passionate about personal growth and lifelong learning. I’ve earned multiple certifications in computer technology, fitness, and health, and I’m currently studying cybersecurity through Google’s online program.

In my free time, I enjoy fitness, gaming, and creating music. I believe in leading by example—showing that discipline, consistency, and a strong mindset can completely change your life.

This is your chance to take control of your future. Whether your goal is education, travel, career advancement, or personal growth, the Army National Guard provides the foundation to achieve it all. Don’t wait for opportunities—create them. The first step is believing you can do it; the second is taking action.
