SGT Israel Contreras Jr

I joined the Army National Guard in April 2019, motivated by the college benefits and the desire to take on a new challenge in my life.

I serve as a 13J Fire Control Specialist, where I’ve had the opportunity to develop leadership, discipline, and teamwork skills that have shaped who I am today. While I have not yet deployed or been activated, I take pride in continuing to grow as a Soldier and leader in the Guard.

Recruiting Career

I became a recruiter on October 3, 2024, after discovering my passion for helping others see their potential.

I enjoy recruiting because it allows me to reach out to youth and others earlier in their lives — giving them opportunities and direction I wish I had at their age. The most rewarding part of my role is setting people up for successand watching them become the best version of themselves through service and self-discipline.

Civilian Life & Interests

Outside of the Guard, I stay active in my community as a volunteer soccer coach for kids, helping them build teamwork and confidence.

Hobbies: Soccer, video games, and fitness

I joined the National Guard to change my path and build a better future for myself. Instead of continuing down the road I was on, I took a chance on myself and the Guard — and it paid off.

Now, I want to pass that same opportunity to the next generation — to show them that it’s never too late to turn things around, set goals, and achieve something greater.

The National Guard changed my life — let it change yours too. 🇺🇸
