SSG Malorie Warren

I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois, though I spent 15 years in Bloomington, IL, which I also consider home. I joined the Illinois Army National Guard (ILARNG) in 2014.

At the time, I was working full-time at State Farm, but I knew I wanted more for myself and my daughter. I wanted to earn my degree, gain benefits, and find a greater sense of purpose. A friend serving on Active Duty introduced me to the National Guard, and after visiting a local unit during drill weekend, I decided to enlist.

I began my career as a Culinary Specialist (92G) and have since served on assignments in Australia, Japan, Germany, and across the United States. In 2020, I voluntarily deployed to Ukraine during the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences have strengthened my leadership, adaptability, and commitment to service.

Recruiting Career

I started my recruiting career in November 2022. What I enjoy most about recruiting is the opportunity to share my storyand help others discover their full potential.

The most rewarding part of this career is educating others about the National Guard, which many people overlook or misunderstand compared to Active Duty service. The Guard truly is the best-kept secret—a place where people can serve their country, gain education and benefits, and grow beyond what they thought possible.

Civilian Life & Education

I hold an Associate of Science in Psychology from Parkland College and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Illinois State University. I’m currently pursuing a Master of Science in Human Resources at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). I’m also ServSafe Certified.

Outside of my military and academic life, I enjoy spending time at the gym, reading, exploring nature, and working on home DIY projects. I’m passionate about mentoring youth and volunteering at local food banks to give back to my community.

Message to Future Soldiers

The National Guard changed my life by giving me direction, discipline, and purpose—and it can do the same for you. It’s more than just a uniform; it’s an organization that helps you grow, serve your community, and build a future you can be proud of.
